Bryophytes and lichens visit in Model: Barcelona Architectures Festival
Bryophytes and lichens, living elements of architecture. Monestir de Pedralbes site visit.
Itinerary of initiation to the knowledge of bryophytes and lichens that colonize the stone materials of the city. Explanation of the beneficial effects on the urban environment. Bioprotection vs. Biodeterioration. Do bryophytes and lichens help us in heritage conservation
Lichens and other biofilms inexorably colonize building materials. Traditionally they have been considered something to avoid, associated with the criterion of biodeterioration. In this activity we will learn about the most important species, we will discuss the idea of bioprotection and we will also assess the beneficial effects that these organisms have on urban environments.
The activity will be in Catalan, but written Spanish and English translations will be provided for the presentations, observations and debate.
